“Activism and Artivism on Multiple Fronts and Across Borders: Choices, Channels, Networks, Challenges, and … Joy! – A Roundtable with Tania Adam, Raquel Lima, Kiyémis, Wendy Baonga, and Charline Kanza” is an event that was part of the program for the projects “Navigating Afro-Knowledges: Exploring Practices and Theories in Digital Diaspora Studies”. It tool place in the Kassenhalle at the University of Bremen on June 18, 2026.
This roundtable aimed to bring together Afro-European writers, artists, cultural practitioners and activists from France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain, whose struggles take shape on various fronts: the digital sphere, literature, art, curatorial work, community life, collective action, and more. The goal was, on the one hand, to see how their paths, though different, resonate with one another, and on the other hand, to understand the significance of the growing diversity of forms of expression they employ. The discussions focused on their thematic and disciplinary orientations, how they network with other writers, artists, cultural practitioners and activists in Europe and beyond, the channels of communication they use, the challenges they face, and as for the question of whether there is any joy in what drives them to continue their work day after day. It was also discussed how artistic and cultural practices are also a space of knowledge production, imagination, aesthetic inquiry and critical thought in its own right. The roundtable was moderated by Ximena Cervantes Englerth and Merveilles Mouloungui, both members of the ERC project AFROEUROPECYBERSPACE.
