Afromayores

Memory and Genealogy of Afrodescendants in Spain" #

Afromayores is an audiovisual project coordinated by Lucía Asué Mbomío Rubio, Laurent Leger Adame and José Oyono Ngalo that aims to make visible African and Afro-descendant people over the age of 65 in Spain. Its objective is to remember their existence, to know and value their history, to celebrate their heritage, their knowledge, their contributions and their struggles. It is one of the many artistic initiatives associated with the association Conciencia Afro and Espacio Afro in Madrid.

From October 15th to December 15th, 2024, we will exhibit the photo collection "Afromayores" in the premises of the DFG Research Training Group 2868: Contradiction Studies (Grazer Str. 2, Bremen). It consists of portraits taken by the photographer Laurent Leger Adame and snapshots taken from the personal albums of the persons photographed by Leger Adame. The exhibition is complemented by a series of video interviews uploaded to Youtube and accessible through a QR code at the exhibition.

The exhibition will be inaugurated with a vernissage on October 15, 2024, in the presence of Laurent Leger Adame, who will talk to us about the genesis and motivation of the project (in English).
