Travelling between Spaces and Media: Migration, Transmediality and Postdigitality in Afro-Spanish Poetry and Video Art

At the workshop “Multiple Mobilities and Migration” at Goethe University Frankfurt, 17-18 July 2025, Julia gave a talk on “Travelling between Spaces and Media: Migration, Transmediality and Postdigitality in Afro-Spanish Poetry and Video Art”. In this talk, she studied the transmedial aesthetics of the poem collection “Derecho de admisión” published by Afrodescendant poet Yeison García López of Colombian descent and the video evocations created by Afrodescendant video artist Heidi Ramírez. She explored how both artists, through their entangled works, sketch a complex picture of what it means to live as an Afrodescendant migrant in Spain and to both individually and collectively resist the predominant master narrative of Europe’s ‘whiteness’.
