WOC Research Center Digital Diaspora lecture series, 8 July 2025, U Bremen

On July 3, 2025, doctoral candidate Jenaba Samura (ZfL Berlin) gave a guest talk on “Adventures in Afropea: Black Travelogues as Counter Narratives to Colonial-Ethnograpic Travel Writing.

Our roundtable addressed the digital space as an archive of African and Afrodescendant knowledge. It explored how the digital serves as a space where (new) knowledge is produced, stored and disseminated and asks for the potentials and the hindrances of the digital archive in the 21st century.

Ximena Cervantes Englerth gave a talk on “Oralidad, humor y activismo digital antirracista en el podcast “No nay negros en el Tibet” in a panel hosted by the Luso/Hispanophone Caucus at the 2025 Conference of the African Literature Association in Nairobi, Kenya.

Francesca Aiuti gave a talk on “Afro-Futurist Visual Ecologies in France and Italy: A Journey Between Words, Sounds, and Images” at the 2025 Conference of the African Literature Association in Nairobi, Kenya.

On June 13, 2025, Julia was invited to give a talk at the 1° Colóquio Hanseático-Internacional de Literatura e Cultura em Língua Portuguesa at the University of Hamburg

The Forum Junge Romanistik is an annual conference that offers a unique platform for young academics to present their research findings and network. It is characterised by its thematic diversity and the promotion of young academics in Romance studies, which makes it a special event in the academic calendar. In this conference with the title ‘Symbols and discourses in the Afrofeminist digital community - a digital homeplace for anti-racist resistance’, Ximena Cervanets Englerth (U. Bremen) analysed various digital formats created and/or coordinated by members of the Afrofeminist community in Spain and Latin America (e.g. Afroféminas, Afrocolectiva, Afrochingonas, etc.).
